Considerations When Using the Thermal Shipping Container to Store Vaccine
CDC recommends providers use the thermal shipping container for temporary storage only.
The container requires significant support to maintain a stable temperature to store vaccine, including:
- Trained staff
- Arrangements for a regular supply of dry ice
- Standard operating procedures for on-going maintenance
If you choose to use the container to store vaccine, have a “Plan B” for vaccine storage
- If temperatures begin to rise – move vaccines to the refrigerator
- Plan to use the vaccine in the next 1 month (31 days) if this occurs
Contact your jurisdiction’s immunization program for guidance as needed.
