Standing Orders

Standing orders are written protocols approved by a physician or other authorized practitioner.

They allow healthcare professionals to assess and administer vaccine to patients who meet certain criteria, such as age or underlying medical condition.

Laws and regulations regarding the use of standing orders can vary by state.

  • Contact the immunization program at your state or local health department or the appropriate state body (e.g., state board of medical/nursing/pharmacy practice) for more information/guidance.
