Determining the Expiration Date

Always verify the vaccine’s expiration date before beginning the preparation process. NEVER administer expired vaccine.

Write the date on the carton. As the expiration date approaches, check the expiration date again. Do not discard vaccine until ensuring the expiration date has passed.

Some vaccines may have a beyond use date (BUD) that is earlier than the expiration date. BUDs are calculated based on the date/time the vial is first punctured and the storage information in the package insert.
