Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is an acute and potentially life-threatening serious allergic reaction.

All vaccination locations should have:

  • A written protocol to manage medical emergencies following vaccination
  • Intramuscular epinephrine available at all times
  • Health care personnel trained and qualified to recognize the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and administer epinephrine.

For more information on anaphylaxis, including early recognition and management, see Preparing for the Potential Management of Anaphylaxis after COVID-19 Vaccination.
