Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

CDC is the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people.

CDC has two overarching health protection goals:

  • Preparedness: People in all communities will be protected from infectious, environmental, and terrorist threats,
  • Health promotion and prevention of disease, injury, and disability: All people will achieve their optimal lifespan with the best possible quality of health in every stage of life.

Toward these goals, CDC provides science-based information to enhance health decision-making and to promote health through strong partnerships.  CDC serves as the national focus for developing and applying disease and injury prevention and control, environmental health services, and public health education.  CDC is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.  Visit the websites of CDC at www.cdc.gov and of CDC's Public Health Law Program at www.phppo.cdc.gov/od/phlp

American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics (ASLME)
