Digital Certificates

As a secure web-based application, eGrATIS is hosted on CDC's Secure Data Network (SDN) that requires each user must have a digital certificate installed within their browser to gain entry to eGrATIS.

Steps To Obtaining a Digital Certificate

(For those who already have a digital certificate for other applications, please start at Step 3.)

Step 1 - This is to let the CDC SDN team know that you are requesting a digital certificate.

1. Go to https://ca.cdc.gov

2. Type !cdc_sdn_apply! in the box exactly as it appears here. Click "Accept". You cannot copy and paste

  !cdc_sdn_apply!

Into the field - you must type it in.

3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Enroll"

4. Enter contact information into the appropriate fields. Click "Next"

5. Select eGrATIS in the ‘Program or Division’ list box

6. Field is populated with ‘eGrATIS’. Highlight ‘eGrATIS’.

7. Click the ‘Next’ button

8. Create password (i.e. Challenge Phrase). Please note: you must follow the exact instructions on minimum character length and alphanumeric combinations stipulated on the website to create the Challenge Phrase. Please remember your challenge phrase. You will need this each and every time you access SDN.

Step 2 - Installation of the actual digital certificate

1. The Program Administrator (Cindy Whitehead or Igor Bulim) will review and approve your request. SDN (PHINTech@cdc.gov) will send you a confirmation email with your certificate attached. This email will outline the instructions for installing the Digital Certificate on your computer.

2. IMPORTANT: Please make sure that you have administrative rights for your computer and the appropriate systems requirements. If you are not sure, please check with your IT staff before you attempt installation of the digital certificate (you only get one chance). If you do not already have administrative rights work with your IT specialist to obtain them.

3. Once you verify you have administrative rights, you can click on the URL in the email, and the installation process should occur automatically.

4. To verify that the certificate installed correctly, go to: Internet, Tools, Internet Options, Content tab, Certificates. If the installation occurred correctly, you should see your name in the "Issue To" column and "CDC Secure Data Network" in the "Issued By" column and the expiration date of the certificate.

Step 3 - Adding eGrATIS to your current digital certificate.

1. Go to https:\\sdn.cdc.gov

2. Type in your Challenge Phrase that you created in Step 1 and click "Submit"

3. Click on "Request Additional Activities" in the My Applications sections.

4. Select "eGrATIS" as the program.

5. Click on "List Activities"

6. Select "eGrATIS"

7. Click on "ADD"

8. Click on "Request activity".

9. The requested activity will be approved by SDN and POB, then you will receive an email from SDN with further instructions.

Step 4 - Accessing the eGrATIS website.

1. Go to https:\\sdn.cdc.gov

2. Type in your Challenge Phrase that you created in Step 1 and click "Submit"

3. Once you hit submit, the next screen (activity_list.asp) will list "eGrATIS" as a program under the "My Applications" section. Click the "eGrATIS" link to access the eGrATIS application.

4. On your initial visit to the eGrATIS application, you will be asked to confirm that you will abide by the "Rules of Behavior" for the website.

5. On every visit to the site you will be presented with the disclaimer screen - please click "Accept" to access the application menu.
